DESCRIPTION

An inscribed block of Caen stone is incorporated into the interior of the porch on the north-west side of Mansion House (1030450). The stone reads:

1543 Henry VIII, 35th year of his reign

The stone was drawn at a scale of 1:1 by RCHME as part of the archaeological survey of Nonsuch Park carried out between 1993 and 1995.

Between 1993 and 1995 RCHME's Cambridge Field Office carried out an archaeological survey of Nonsuch Park, following a request from Professor Martin Biddle. This included an analytical earthwork survey at 1:2500 scale of the modern area of Nonsuch Park, and Level 1 investigations of the standing buildings, together with documentary and cartographic research.

Mansion House (TQ 26 SW 147), which is a Grade II Listed Property incorporates an inscribed block of Caen stone into the interior of the porch on the north-west side of the house. The stone reads:

The stone was drawn at a scale of 1:1 and a reduced version is reproduced in the RCHME Level 3 client report, together with an associated plan at 1:2500 scale. (1-4)
