DESCRIPTION

Small motte with a base diameter of 23 metres and an average height of 3.5 metres, largely composed of stone rubble. Around the west uphill side, is a slight ditch, 7 metres wide and up to 0.5 metres deep. Possibly the debris of a stone tower.

(SO 42727347) Castle Mound (NR). (1)

Mound is about 68ft in diameter at the base and rises about 10ft above the general surface. There is a rough sinking on the top. (Unclassified). (2)

The Tump. Castle mount. (3)

A small motte situated in pastureland upon an E-facing slope between two valleys.

The motte has a base diameter of 23.0m and an average height of 3.5m, and is largely composed of stone rubble. It has two very large ancient trees growing upon it. Around the W, uphill, side is a slight ditch, 7.0m in width, up to 0.5m in depth. Resurveyed at 1:2500. (4)

SO 427735. A stony mound, like a damaged motte, but very possibly the debris of a stone tower. (5)

The mound described by the previous authorities was seen as earthworks and mapped from good quality air photographs. No further information was added. (Morph No. MU.175.6.1.)
