A Medieval motte and bailey and possibly associated features are visible as earthworks and have been mapped from aerial photographs. Medieval settlement remains are situated adjacent to the motte and are described separately in SO 73 NE 16. It is possible they are specifically associated with the motte and bailey but it is likely that they form part of possible Medieval and/or Post Medieval settlement at Castlemorton after the motte and bailey had gone out of use. A string of Medieval and/or Post Medieval fishponds are situated immediately east of the motte and bailey. There is a record of the existence of a castle in the early thirteenth century but as there is no surface evidence of a castle or building it is possible the record actually refers to the motte rather than an actual building. Medieval pottery has been found at the site.

Castlemorton. An oval motte 35ft high with bailey. There are traces of subsidiary enclosures on the east and north. There is record of the existence of the castle in the early 13th c, and the plan is typically Norman, modified to suit the ground. Probably built before 1166. (2,3)

A motte and bailey with a string of later fishponds to the east. The monument is mutilated but still impressive. Published survey (1:2500) revised.
There is no surface evidence of a 'castle' (or any building) at the published site, and the presence of the adjacent motte makes any contemporary defensive structure unlikely. No finds were made during the investigation. (5)

The Medieval motte and bailey and possibly associated features, referred to by the previous authorities, are visible as earthworks and have been mapped from aerial photographs.

Fragmentary remains of ditched and embanked enclosures extend between the motte and Church Farms. It is possible they are specifically associated with the motte and bailey but it is likely that they form part of Medieval and/or Post Medieval settlement at Castlemorton after the motte and bailey had gone out of use. The possible fishponds, still marked on the OS 1:10,000 map of 1973, have also been mapped. The Medieval and/or Post Medieval a settlement, and associated ridge and furrow, at Castlemorton are recorded in SO 73 NE 16.

As there is no surface evidence of a castle or building it is possible the castle reference mentioned by authorities 2,3 and 5 actually refers to the motte rather than an actual building.

There is a reference to a castle at Castle Morton in possession of the Foliot family in the Rotula Hundredorum in the period 1154-1216. (7)
