MONUMENT NO. 1175055

DESCRIPTION + /

The remains of the medieval settlement at Cogges. The settlement originated in the Saxon period and buried deposits includes features of this date, while slight earthworks south and east of the moated site (SP 30 NE 12) indicate the location of building platforms and associated features. In the 13th century this settlement was abandoned in favour of a new site further east, on the opposite side of the river (SP 30 NE 99), and its remains were partly overlain by the new manor house (SP 30 NE 13) and associated buildings.
