DESCRIPTION

A stone barn at Brackenrigg, formerly Brownrigg, is derived from a 16th century bastle or pele tower. The walls are one metre thick and built of sandstone, probably from the nearby Roman Wall. The building is two storeyed, with an 18th century extension to the right side.
