In July 1209 forty marks were paid out of King John's
household to Peter de Scudamore and Godfrey of St Martin
'towards the works of the castle of Cadbury'. No other
reference to the castle is known, but as Peter de Scudamore and
Godfrey of St Martin appear to have been connected with the
south-western counties, it was presumably at Cadbury in
Devonshire, or at one of the two places of the same name in
somerset. (1)

The Castle of Cadbury, mentioned in 1209, may have been
situated at Cadbury Heath (ST 6672), Oldland. (2)
