WOLVESEY CASTLE

Bishop's palace complex originally built as a bishop's residence, developed into a castle complex in two phases between 1130 and 1171, on the site of a Saxon chapel. The palace was reduced to ruins during the civil war. The later Bishops Palace was built in 1684 by Sir Christopher Wren, incorporating the 11th century chapel. The ruins of the castle are scheduled, listed grade I and in guardianship. The palace is listed grade I.
