CHARTLEY HALL

DESCRIPTION + /

Earthwork remains of a Medieval moat. The original house was constructed about 1475 but burnt down in 1781 or 1782. It was rebuilt but subsequently burnt down in 1847 and replaced by the present house. Field investigations in 1975 found the moat to be waterfilled. The eastern arm had been enlarged and converted into an ornamental pond with two artificial islands.
