Bishop Roger de Clinton (1129-48) made a defensive ditch round Lichfield. There is evidence that George Lane is on the line as it was still known as Castle Ditch in mid 15th century. The course on the SE is shown on a plan of 1350. Milley's Hospital is built in the ditch. No visible remains.

Bishop Roger de Clinton (1129-48) made a defensive ditch round Lichfield. There is evidence that George Lane (SK 12040965) is on the line as it was still known as Castle Ditch in mid 15th century. The course on the SE is shown on a plan of 1350 (2) (see illustration card) Milley's Hospital is built in the ditch. (1-3)

No trace of the ditch remains. A plaque at SK 11770923 records the road is on the site of the ditch. (4)
