Possible medieval deer leap, surviving as a deep linear ditch, but deformed by later quarrying.

A deep, irregular width ditch, running east to west in the
triangle formed by roads at Bradmer Hill (SK 586662). (1)

A series of quarries broad and deep to the west, narrower and
sharp 'V' section to the east with a south entrance. Not an
antiquity. (2)

The quarrying principally affects the western end of the ditch, but is a later development. The original ditch is up to 2.5m deep with a broad low embankment on its northern side and a well-defined ramp giving access to the base. A map of 1609 (3a) annotates 'the oulde leape' in this locality, which occupies the ground between Clipstone deer park to the south and Sherwood to the north. Te earthwork could represent a form of deer leap. (3)
