DESCRIPTION

The remains of a cross t Stumps Cross, the base is 0.7 metres square and 0.5 metres high with chamfered corners. The shaft is 0.9 metres high.

Vallance mentions and illustrates the remains of a cross at Stanway, of unusual form and measuring 1 ft 10 in high, excluding the stump of the shaft (2).

He gives no siting however, and possibly refers to the cross (SP 03 SE14) at Stumps Cross, Stanway. According to Baddeley, a sundial still stands in a field near the site to the Pilgrim's Inn at Hailes (3), and it is possible he refers to the remains of the cross as published above. (2-3)

SP 04903001. The cross base is 0.7m square and 0.5m high with chamfered corners. The shaft is 0.9m high. It is not the cross
illustrated by Vallance, which could not be located. Published survey (25") revised. (4)
