DAVENTRY PRIORY

Cluniac Priory of St Augustine, founded originally at Preston Capes circa 1090. It was moved to Daventry in 1107-8, when there were 4 secular canons present at the church. Alleged to have dropped out of the Cluniac Order circa 1231, although it apparently reported directly to La Charite in1298,1390, and 1405. Dissolved 1525. Daventry Priory stood contiguous to the west end of the church, stretching northwards. The church was demolished and replaced in the 19th century.
