"Fordham. Fortified during the rebellion of the Earl of Essex, 1143-4". (1)

Field investigation revealed no earthworks or other evidence of fortification in the vicinity of Fordham. Cambs Arch Unit (a) have no information available relating to defences, and inspection of the enclosure map of 1809 proved negative. (2)
