PERCYS TOWER

ALTERNATIVE NAME:  DOUGLAS TOWER

Documented site of a medieval tower of 14th century date, now overlain by a modern road. The detached tower stood on the townward side, in advance of the main entrace to Berwick Castle. It was known in the 14th century as Douglas Tower and in the 15th century as Percy's Tower. The tower was itself a heavily defended work, with its own barbican and drawbridge.
