MANOR FARM

DESCRIPTION + /

Farmhouse of two storeys with a part attic. The east wall was re-clad in brick in the 1950s. The north gable wall is of 19th century brick. The south gable wall is of flint with brick details, these bricks have horizontal skintlings. The west side of the building is covered by a two storey extension of similar flint and brickwork, but there is a clear join between the construction of the two storeys, showing the upper section has been added. This section includes a number of ashlar blocks, which possibly came from the parish church which has been partly ruined at various times. The building was originally timber framed, though its framing was somewhat unusual, and was originally a medieval hall house of at least two cells. In the early 17th century it was heightend by the standing of new wallposts on top of the ols, at the same time the south end was either added or rebuilt, incorporating the new stack. In the 18th and 19th centuries parts of the building were rebuilt in masonry.
