DESCRIPTION

Medieval manor house and associated manorial complex, probably early 14th century in date. The surviving remains comprise a length of limestone walling, dating from the 15th century, and a series of substantial earthworks. The house seems to have served as a dower house and was referred to as a castle in 1547.

[TA 01328341] MANOR HOUSE [NR] (Remains of) (1)

A short distance to the W. of St. Martin's Church, Seamer, are some scanty remains of the manor-house. A ruined fragment of wall containing a 15th.c. doorway is now all that is standing above ground, but extensive foundation mounds may be traced in connection with it. It was the seat of the Percy family, and was first mentioned in 1304. It seems to have been used as a dower house and was called a castle in 1547. (2)
