The present day barn at Palace Farm dates from the 14th century and was originally the Great Hall of the former manor house of the Archbishops of Canterbury. Standing to the east of the courtyard, it was probably built by John Stratford, Archbishop from 1333-1348,and whose favourite residence is said to have been Charing. The building consists of two parallel ranges and an L-shaped projection to the south-west. It is constructed from stone rubble and flints with long and short ashar quoins and a hipped tiled roof with a pentice to the south. There are waggon entrance in the centre of the east and west fronts whilst the south-west projection has a pointed stone archway and a stone window over it consisting of a single light with a 4-centred head.
