1995-10-02 00:00:00- 1996-03-15 00:00:00 Measured Survey RCHME: Hedingham Castle Survey

In October and November 1995 the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England carried out an archaeological survey at Hedingham Castle, Castle Hedingham, Essex. The survey was carried out at the request of English Heritage who part-funded the work, and was designed to tie in with restoration work on the Norman keep and Tudor bridge, and also to complement geophysical prospection on the castle mound.

The survey was intended to provide a detailed account of the extensive and multi-period landscape, and to this end both the castle earthworks and the later garden features wee surveyed.

The survey was carried out at 1:1000 scale using a Wild electronic theodolite with integral EDM (using Trimmap survey software) and traditional graphical methods. A report and survey plan were produced to RCHME Level 3 standard specification. See archive report and survey.
