In January to February 1994, the Cambridge office of The Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England carried out an earthwork survey of the site of the palace and gardens of the Henrician palace of Nonsuch, Epsom and Ewell, Surrey. The survey was carried out at the same time as the Royal Parks Project (see Event record 932131) but was primarily intended to contribute to a forthcoming report by Professor Martin Biddle on the excavations carried out on the site in 1959-60, and followed a request by him. The first phase of the survey was carried out at 1:1000 scale, but was subsequently integrated into a 1:2500 scale survey of the remainder of the Park (see Event record 943207). Ordnance Survey control was established using a TC1610 theodolite with integral EDM, and the details of the earthworks were recorded using conventional graphical methods. An plan and interim report at RCHME Level 2 were produced, which were incorporated into an interpretative report to RCHME Level 3 on completion of Phase II of the project, held in archive.

In February to March 1995, the Cambridge Office of The Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England carried out an earthwork survey of the modern area of Nonsuch Park (some 165ha), in the borough of Epsom and Ewell, Surrey. The survey was carried out at the same time as the Royal Parks Project (see Event Record 932131), but was primarily intended to contribute to the forthcoming publication by Professor Martin Biddle of his excavations on the site of Nonsuch Palace in 1959-60, and followed a request by him. The survey aimed to record monuments of all periods in the former parkland; Phase I of the project (see Event Record 1007716) recorded the site of the Palace and its gardens at a larger scale (1:1000). Ordnance Survey control and the earthworks themselves were all recorded using a Wild TC1610 theodolite with integral EDM, and related to a 1:2500 scale base map produced from rectified aerial photography. A report and plans integrating the results of both phases was produced to RCHME Level 3. A photographic archive of the Park and some of the monuments within it was established.

Evaluation followed geophysical survey (EHGSDB Visit Nos: 1568,2018),
revealing walls between the Privy Garden and Wilderness, and between the
Orchard, the Wilderness and the Plain. A medieval pit revealed in one
trench may be associated with the village of Cuddington, removed c.1538
when Nonsuch Palace was built.
